Beautiful place, but experiencing growing pains. Lots of turnover. Staff not properly trained.

We weren't as happy at HarborChase as we thought we would be. It's a beautiful place. But there is a huge turnover, even in management in just the first 6 months we were there. I think they are very understaffed in the memory care side - I think it's too big for the amount of staff they have. Too many pool nurses I heard. And the pool staff is not of the same caliber as the regular staff. Not properly trained to handle certain situations. Moved my loved one to a smaller, better run facility.

Our family deserves better!

My loved one is a resident at HarborChase of Beavercreek. The turnover at this facility is bad. I think in this climate with lack of resources, meaning that it seems impossible to get folks to work or stay once employed, I don't know what the solution is. Maybe stay bonuses and better management would be a good start! My loved one is safe, but as a whole, this system can be a lot better! I would only recommend this facility to others if you are going to be involved, but of course it's true in all facilities!

Review for Sunrise of Rochester

No one came to welcome, my loved one the day we moved in. The care is ok but they don't seem willing to work on alternative ways to deliver care that is needed. It's fair - they talk good talk but but not a good walk.

Short staffed and deferred maintenance

The clearly have a lot of staff turnover and staffing shortages - they had addressed that this week with a large one time assessment and a rate hike. I hope it will help them catch up with needed enhancements with staff benefits and deferred maintenance. There are a lot of agency staff working here at the moment and a lot of turnover in the actual Sunrise facility staff.

We had a really nice tour at Anthology of Mason. The people were really nice. It just wasn't the right fit for my loved one. She was looking for a more upscale environment as far as location and amenities.

We liked that BrightStar was a smaller facility, but the apartment sizes were way to small and I knew my loved one would feel claustrophobic coming from a house. I just did not get the vibe here that I got from some other places we looked.

Care is Inconsistent

Some staff goes above and beyond while others are there to do the bare minimum. For being a non-profit one would think they’re staffing would be sufficient but it seems they are always understaffed. Specifically, they don’t have enough aids to assist residents when they turn on their call lights. This retirement community does not live up to the persona they are trying to convey, specifically for residents who are in assisted living.

This facility was run down and weirdly designed. The operation looked sloppy and poorly managed. On the memory care floor, people were stacked up shoulder to shoulder in front of the community TV. Not for us.

We visited this community while looking into care options for a loved one. This place seemed nice enough overall, although the atmosphere left a little to be desired. The facility itself was well kept and clean, however it didn't seem like an overly friendly place. Not many residents were out and about when we toured, and the staff did not seem overly warm either.

Review for The Cottage of Mason

My brother is not at all happy at [removed] (Cottages of Mason). He would give it a 2 at best. There are very few activities going on. Food quality is not consistent. Also medication distribution is not consistent. It can take many days for the Pharmacy to fill a new prescription

Do not recommend this facility

This place had good reviews (under previous management) and claimed to be smoking friendly. It is not smoking friendly and they don't have the staff to take residents outside to smoke. There were two changes to management in 6 months, little to no communication between the staff and very poor overall quality of care. On top of the care provided we had one on one visiting angels come most of the time. Without that we would have had to find other arrangements.

I toured Harbor Chase and the facility itself was beautiful and glamorous however what turned me off completely was when it was said “the food is our top priority… and of course care too”. People are placing their loved ones in these facilities to have peace of mind. When the food is the most important and the care is second to the food? You’re in the wrong business. Open a restaurant instead of an assisted living facility. The nurse on staff when I toured did not seem friendly whatsoever either. Just not very inviting even with the beautiful shell of a building. The care and peace of mind is what people are paying for…. I hope they realize that is more important than their upscale restaurants.

Our Experience with Memory Care @ HarborChase-Beavercreek

Visually, it is a beautiful facility. Food is pretty good. I hesitate to recommend it because they are severely short-staffed on care partners and managers. In the six months my family member has been there, two Memory Care Directors have walked off the job, 2 Activities Directors have left (leaving zero supervision in Memory Care), the Business Director quit, the Sales Director left the day after we got there & yesterday, the Director for Care gave her two weeks notice. We had finally had a meeting to review my family member's basic care after 6 months of requesting and she gave notice the next day. We are nice and not demanding. I am there every day. Several memory care families are working/supporting each other so we look out for each other's relatives when we are in the building because of the turmoil. I shudder to think what would happen if my parent was high maintenance.

Horrible Experience, Do Not Place Your Loved One at This Sunrise Location

Do not place your loved one here, they will not be properly cared for here. There was a lot of medication issues including lack of the medication that my loved one was to receive, and my loved one didn't receive them. The community's source didn't have it and there were days, my loved one didn't receive the medication. There was lack of communication with the family to notify us of this challenge. There was a lack of transparency by the community as well. The laundry was not getting done regularly in a timely manner. Due to the laundry not getting done in a timely manner, my loved one sat in soiled pants for about a week. There was no linen changes for a month. These items were to be included in the monthly fee the family was paying. There was no follow up on medical care. These requests were made by the family through the family requests. It was a horrible experience for my loved one and the family. We would make the community aware, and they would promise to look into it or follow up on it. However, there was no follow up by the community to the family. There was a nurse change during my loved one being here. The new nurse stated they were made aware of the issues in the community. The new nurse attempted to provide course correction and give proper care, by the time this was being implemented the family decided to move our loved one out of the community.

If your family member requires a high level of care, do not recommend

If your loved one requires a high level of care and they can't advocate for themselves - 1; If your loved one requires a low to medium care level - 4 My mother developed an ulcer due to sitting in one place while at the Bradford. That ultimately led to her passing. It can be debated whether the ulcer was preventable but it was 100% predictable and they did nothing to prevent it.

Unhappy with the experience

My Father was there for a year and a half, the quality declined steadily! He passed away in [date removed] and we received no call , nothing from the head of the staff to give us any type of sympathy. We were very unhappy and disappointed at this service!! The staff was always very limited, with mostly one person available forthe entire floor, if he pushed his button, it took up to a half hour to respond. We enrolled him with high hopes, very clean and a staff we liked, they got rid of half the staff within a few months, with no explanation and we had to visit every other day to ensure he was ok and getting the help he needed.

Review for The Patterson

As for comments, when the current owners purchased the facility, they did not honor any of the contracts and agreements from the previous owners. It has been an unbelievably horrible experience with the new management. I would not wish anybody going there to have to go through this.

Quality of Memory Care is Poor

Memory Care-We found the quality of care to be highly inadequate. Residents were left unattended for hours at a time. Residents were left in soiled clothing. Family member's room was not cleaned & laundry not done multiple weeks at a time. I took laundry home & dusted/cleaned myself. Showers were rarely given despite being told it would be a weekly occurrence. High staff turnover. My understanding is that Assisted Living is a pleasant experience.
