Harmony on the Peninsula to be greatly inferior to the numerous other facilities we have experienced in care standards, staffing, and management. The facility looks clean and well-decorated. But the problems run deep, stemming from leadership that turned over by 100% in our 1.5 years there, and became more disorganized and disconnected with each new director. The current executive director claims to be experienced, but she admittedly has no medical background and is a poor and disliked leader, evidenced by chronic unhappiness and turnover of the already understaffed care provider team. The food is passable, but the mealtime service is even worse, riddled by understaffing and disorganization. In one of many examples of lapses in care, our mom with late-stage dementia was forgotten and left to nap in her uncomfortable chair in the wide-open dining hall after one meal ended, and then discovered that she was

My mom has been there since 2019 and it has been declining since then. No consistency in the director role for several years and therefore poor leadership for staff. My mom has been sent to the hospital 2 times and the last time the EMT’s warned me about what they see there. Pathetic. If I could move her without doing harm to her I would in a minute! Skip it!

It was a horrible experience and my mom is longer there. They were overcharging me. I had to constantly fight with them. There billing department had no idea what they were doing. The executive director was clueless. I did not find the staff helpful. I found out that sometimes at night there was not a staff person on my mom's floor. There would be 1 staff person covering both floors of assisted living.

Poor care for memory care. They don't cater to special diets even with physicians orders. Allergies to gluten and lactase are not the same as dislike for a specific food. It's a health issue and it's not there policy to care. I don't understand why I filled out paperwork noting the allergies. They were aware when they accepted him as a resident. On top of the monthly fees we are also buying groceries so he has something he can eat. I was there [date removed] and once again, he had diarrhea. Why do they keep feeding him food with gluten. He has dementia and can't always make such decisions for himself. We thought we were paying Harmony to look after his care. 24/7 nursing is only for emergencies otherwise I have to schedule home Healthcare. He was at [removed] and received far better care, working nurse on staff and they made sure not to feed him gluten.

They do not perform any of the promised, written, agreements. The food is disgusting, the light housekeeping as a joke vacuuming with a broom, not one time have they checked on my mother, that was the reason I chose this location, for peace of mind while I was traveling for work. They don't call like they said they would, we tripped the emergency cord and no one showed up, she went without water in her bathroom for 3 days, the community van does not move. I've never seen anyone getting in or out of the van other than employees with their lunch. The first bill was a cluster, no one knows what they are doing, especially the leasing staff, the move in specialist, all horrible at their jobs. I gave notice 10 days after move in that my mom would not be staying. I'm anxious to see if I have to hire an attorney for the community fee to be returned.

My parents intended to join the community. They met with the nurse, who was a lovely person, and learned that their level of care would be determined AFTER they moved in. My Dad became very anxious about the uncertainly of the cost. We informed Harmony that they would not proceed with moving there. Harmony did not return any part of the Community fee ($[removed]) because my parents did not give notice within 72 hours (they didn't even meet the nurse within 72 hours!). Communication became difficult with lack of response to text, email or phone. Finally an email was sent stating they would be "released" from the contract and that Harmony would "waive" the community fee if they changed their mind. There is legal and ethical and while they might have been legally within the contract terms they were certainly unethical by deceiving seniors. My parents never moved there so I can't comment on the care provided.

This is in regards to the Independent Living section: The fall/winter 2023-2024 season began a series of days where the heat and hot water does not work in different apartments. This issue has been going on for months with no resolution. There have been more than 1 maintenance/HVAC personnel attempting to fix the issue permanently, however the repairs only last a few days at best, even when new parts are ordered. The elderly are already at high risk in extreme temperatures but are being exposed to under freezing temps repeatedly. There has been no offers to move residents to empty units if available and residents are prohibited from using space heaters. There has also been an ongoing issues with the showers flooding from construction debris getting into the pipes some kind of way that hasn't been figured out yet. Staff turnover is constant probably as a result of low wages and resident complaints of the building issues. The facilities otherwise look nice because it's new.

We decided to choose them based on all the promises they gave. The facility looks to be running down. Carpet and walls and interior old. They promised to update my mother room with new carpet and paint. Along with bring the room up to handicap accessibility. But have not in over 10 months. They knew mom mom was in a wheel chair and needed 2 people to help out of her chair and into her chair or shower. And we paid extra. We even hired a extra care person to come in 3 days a week to clean and do laundry and help her. Even though that is part of the care. They continue to have staff issues and food issues. The health dept has been involved. If we can find a new place we would at this point.

The management keeps turning over and nobody there knows what is going on. They keep trying to take more money out each month than what they are authorized. First they didn't take any money for the first four months...their bookkeeping is a train wreck!!!! I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE AT ALL!!!

It was a horrible experience. I feel like they took advantage of my disabled veteran. Mom, they overcharged us and she didn't even make it there 7 days before she was put in the hospital at the VA and she's been in ever since. I have major major issues with Harmony at oakbrook. If I was independently wealthy I'd buy the place and fire everybody! I would tell others to make sure the management team is stable during my brief time. Every single member of the management team either quit or got fired some even after being promoted.

Don't bring people you care about,80% of the staff does not care about these precious helpless souls. I was there 12 hours a day seeing what went on behind those doors, I was terrified and helpless leaving my brother there when I when home to sleep. ultimately he died there, and they did not refund me the amount of money I overpaid them for that month. I certainly hope someone with authority catches this business for what they are, I spoke to many for help. they never responded.

It was horrible! The only nice thing there is the building. They are always under staffed and the staff that are there do not care about their residents. Do NOT recommend!! We ended up moving our loved one to a different facility where she was very well taken care of.

One thing the Harmony at Harts Run community could improve on would be Not kicking people out when they're sick and need more care

I would give a negative number if I could. This was the worst experience we have had in a very long time. Our father was largely ignored and allowed to remove all the contents of his room, such that he lost them, somewhere in the facility. The staff are rude and lazy. He did not shave, and we do not know that he showered for the one week that he was there. We are not even sure they fed him appropriately. They also let him go out the back door and he was gone for several hours. My sister found him on the golf course. The police were called and we removed him from the facility immediately I would never recommend this place to anyone!

My loved one was previously a resident at Harmony at Columbia. On several occasions, when I went to visit my loved one, she was locked in her room and I had to get a staff member to open the door so that I could get in to see her.

Too much to say, other than my grandmother moved in Aug 2023 and will be moving out [date removed]. I should have listened to her! I was so impressed on our tour. But trust me, sadly what you see is not what you get! I will be contacting corporate.

They have been open for about 18 months and going on their 4 Executive Director and 3 Director of Nursing. The residents are wonderful, but they lack in nursing care and personal care . The community could be a great place to live if they had the right people in place.

Disappointed Cleanliness, overall good but sheets are not getting changed weekly. Friendliness of the staff, variable. Big rush at admittance but head nurse now seems to not know my mother. Quality of care - poor. She has been stranded and denied assistance. Head nurse and aides did not know she is paying $[removed]/month her evaluated level of care. Food is not good. Many people are complaining. The level of food waste should confirm this. The first day in Ashe went to a movie that had started earlier than stated and was not as shown on schedule. I doubt she has bothered since. Shocked how expensive for how little she gets

Any positive reviews are combined with the assisted and independent living facilities. Memory care is VASTLY different. While the building is on campus in a prestigious location, so not be fooled, please. Do your homework. If your loved one has absolutely any cognition at all, don’t even consider. We were told many patients with early stage dementia. Plenty of socialization and activities. Reality is they are woefully understaffed on every level with no activities or socialization. Someone takes them on a ride around the block and that is an activity. They can’t even do laundry or administer meds properly. Staff just let patients lie in filth. They are all one step before hospice unable to even communicate. Worse is they allow severe patients to wander in and out of rooms all day unattended to get in beds with your loved ones and defecate on furnitures. The air shouldn’t be breathed it is so bad and filthy. Worse is administration is cruel and absolutely feckless. Say no

What attracted us at first to Harmony was that it was new construction, everything is shiny and modern and spacious. But, that's a bit like judging a book by its cover. What's inside the rooms, what's happening inside, how people are treated is the only true test. In that test, they truly failed my mother. She was suffering. And when I sent emails to address issues, the emails were repeatedly ignored and I had to chase people to get them to respond, which often seemed like weeks. Never again. Next time I place my mom, I will ask to interview people in advance. In her new home, it's not as shiny and modern but it's a true home, feels like home where people serve from their hearts, are kind and gentle. And the food is really good with multiple options.
