Liked facility a lot. Asked them to do assessment. The two levels of memory care is a big plus. Memory care units very nice, open spaces. Lower level memory care isn't behind locked doors; residents seem at same level as Mother; eat in main dining room. Studio rooms nice; provide eveything yourself - furniture, phone and cable. Fees at high end, but are all inclusive; no add ons for level of care. Two floors, with elevators - this is a negative. One-time fee $750 - lowest. About 23 miles from home.

Parkway lately does not provide adequate staffing or services for the money they charge

Parkway senior living has good points: food, and they keep the place pretty clean but lately the bad outweighs the good. They do not have enough staffing, especially at night and weekends. They do not provide their staff with the proper resources to do laundry i.e. stain remover, bounce sheets to get static out of clothes. They also distribute medicine at their convenience rather than when is is actually prescribed by the doctor. For example, protonics is supposed to be given 30 minutes to an hour before eating--they give it with all the other pills during eating as that is easier for the staff. The biggest problem however is not enough staff to care for patients--especially memory care patients at nights and on weekends. This week there were several times that only one person took care of 27 people at night. Often, they only have 2 staff.

Tough transition from Independant Living to Assisted

We chose Carriage Court because it offered twice as much space for less money than the other facilities we looked at. There is a noticeable decline in weekend employees, as I am sure they are hard to find. The meals were a disappointment at the beginning (3 months ago), but seem to be improving slightly now. Unfortunately, several key employees have been gone, ie the beautician and chauffeur, and the Executive Director has just changed, so continuity of care is not what we anticipated. If they can improve on "response time" to nursing requests, my review will improve.

Less than impressed - Family/Friend
Memory Care

Dont judge a book by its cover,..or a facility by its brochure!

We put my grandmother here a few years ago. It seemed very promising and looked like it would make this a fairly comfortable adjustment for her. It started out a good place to live. After multiple employee turnovers and lots of miscommunication, it has proven otherwise. Lots of empty promises were made to us. And the cost for this place is astronomical considering what they get (her rates have nearly doubled since moving in. She now pays over 5k! a month for a 1 br apartment) The med staff are friendly and try to help the residents as much as they can but they seem to be understaffed. The food is mediocre. The community of people has been good for her but the management dont seem to care if the residents are unhappy or dissatisfied. The amenities that they used to receive have become less and less since they opened.

Hope they have improved

My mother was a resident for 6 months, and then passed away. Most of the experience was fine. As most care offered , it depended on the care giver assigned to her for the day. Some staff was exceptional some were not giving the care she needed. I was there to check on her daily, and was her advocate to the end. Managers were not as accountable as they could have been. When my mom passed away, some staff were kind and caring, others avoided us. After paying them over $30,000 in rent and care expenses we did not receive a sympathy card, flowers, or acknowledgement from the company. Also, The facility is beautiful, she was the first resident in her apartment, but it sometimes took days to have structural issues fixed ( due to a plumbing issue, she was not able to use her shower for 10 days). We are hoping things have improved since my mother’s stay in ‘ The Boulevard ‘ facility in St. Charles, Missouri.

Beautiful place but incompetent staff for the aging

A beautiful facility. The meal options are great and food is pretty good. The very unfriendly weekday frontdesk girl doesn't belong in that position. The rest of the staff is friendly, but not experienced in the care of the aging. The 1st (& only) time they provided a ride to the doctor, they forgot my mom was there and left her for over 4 hours sitting there waiting. The activities are frequently cancelled or changed to new locations without notification. There is definitely a clique of women, and if you're unfortunate enough to have memory problems, they will make you miserable. My mom sat with 5 of them uninvited (at a table for 6) and that was used as an example of unacceptable behavior. (The other example was that it took "intervention" to make her quit in the middle of a wii bowling game to give a new resident priority to play. She was never given priority, and it took over a month when she was new before she was allowed to play!) Since memory problems and mild dementia is common in the aging, the staff needs training on what to expect and how to handle it without deeming it as resident's unacceptable behavior! There was nothing violent, only unfiltered verbal response including a "heLL" to these 2 incidents, but these were the reasons given as to why she needed to find a different facility within 30 days!

A good place for preferred patients

The facilities Here are outstanding. However, the memory care nurses station is located outside of the secured area which makes no sense to me.Also,I found that they much prefer a quiet, sedate patient.Restlessness is definitely a problem for them.I found,at times,my wife eating alone while two or even three aids sat at a table with another patient.I will say the place is clean and the food is excellent. But the attitude is unsettling.Overall I can only give this facility 3 stars.

How far should they let it go ???

My mom has been at this community almost a year. When we first moved her in she loved it, still does for the most part. There are some flaws, some residents should be in assisted living as they have control problems with bladder and don't even know they have made a mess, then sit on furniture where other folks sit and then they have wet pans also, let alone the smell. They are short staffed right now, and it shows. The meals were wonderful, but now there is a new chef, and mom says that she has had enough baked fish that she feels like she could swim. The worst problem is when another resident is allowed to crab the hand of a 90 yr. woman and squeeze so hard it hurt her hand and then yell at her for opening the shade at her dinning table. The dining room was full so plenty of people seen what happened, That is abuse and when reported to the office, told"we will check into it in the meeting on Thursday" this happened on Tuesday evening. This just doesn't sit right with the family.

Poor staffing

For months I have been visiting a resident here who continually complains about the cafeteria. Residents pay for meal programs but do not get regular meals. There is a lack of service staff and many times a lack of a cook. It started out very good 2 years ago but started going downhill last year. Many residents rely on family to attend to bring them groceries so they can cook a meal for themselves in their apartments or a meal delivered from a family member or a service. This issue has been brought to the management staff who says they are trying to hire people. Wish it would go back to the way it was a couple of years ago. I would not recommend this facility for this reason but otherwise it is a good facility overall.

My husband and I had toured this community several times over the last couple years for our dad and really loved the staff. We came back in Dec and were really disappointed. Upon arrival we couldn't locate any staff. When the director came out of the office we asked for [name removed] or [name removed] and were told they didnt work there any longer. We felt rushed like we were bothering him. It seems like all the great people that made us feel so at home are gone.

Our families experience

My brother was not happy there. They didn't give him the care he was told he would get. He is now in the hospital with pneumonia from there. A care giver came in sick and didn't have a mask on, said there wasn't any there at the facility. I would not recommend this place to anyone.

Great promises, low on delivery

The tour was fantastic and looked like this would be a great place. My father fell one week into his stay, and the motion cameras caught it as promised. The assistants were attentive and called an ambulance, but they NEVER notified our family that he was transferred to the hospital, and he was transferred without his phone. We found out by an alert on my chart three hours later. Lots of excuses were made, but no sincere apology was offered.

Needs for improvement

What The Cambridge community could improve on - Properly communicating to the residents about rent increases. Stop overcharging residents for their rent without communicating first. Provide shuttle service every day of the week. As they are paying for the service through their rent and should be provided upon request. Low sodium menu. Residents can add salt as needed. Management to be more available to visit about concerns from family members. The administration has failed to be attentive to the mouse infestation there. I have reported this to Dept Of Sr Services FYI.

I would not recommend that place at all

You never can find anyone no one ever at front desk or at nurses station. Place is clean everyone seems friendly but the managers are not. It is way overpriced and if have any questions good luck - they never call back if you have any questions. I am frustrated about the whole place.
